Jam-Packed January
An awesome start to the new year
About Me!

TKS
I’m halfway through TKS and here is what’s been going on the last month. The first session back from the break was Quantum Computing.
First, we went over the basics of Quantum. The main difference between classic computers and quantum computers is Moore’s Law. Transitioners will half their size and double their speed every time, but according to Moore’s law, we can’t size down any further. We are flatlining - we can’t go smaller. Quantum Computing breaks Moore’s Law. Then, we created one-pagers about Quantum Computing companies. My team and I covered PsiQuantum. It was definitely confusing initially, but as the session continued, I started to understand.
The following week, we went to the metaverse. We used Gather Town, a platform on the metaverse to complete the session. We focused on conversation-style presenting which was a real challenge.
The Focus Hackathon
The Focus Hackathon was 24 hours long, starting at 2AM in Dubai to 2AM the next day. I worked with 4 other amazing girls who had Focuses in Personalized Medicine, like me, and Gene Editing. We decided to work on rejuvenating coral reefs using CRISPR Cas9. Although we weren’t successful in making it to the judging round, I was extremely proud of the final product and our ideas.
In the next session, I reflected on my whole experience as a part of the 24-hour hackathon. I missed the beginning and my team changed a lot of things more than halfway through. Spent time in the wrong ways. We should think about whether or not our solution is impactful. I felt I could do better. Next time, I should share my opinions and stand for them, I should not let myself be rolled over next time. I would also make sure to set my alarms and alerts/reminders properly in order to not miss meetings next time. I would stop stressing about the organization of materials and instead focus on gathering materials and then organizing them.
Book Rec
This month’s letter has been pretty short, but to end it off, here’s a book rec.
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
